The Gifted NEX is currently one of the largest Networks of Expertise under the MoE PLD support banner, We are a team of 1250 educators, all eager to improve outcomes for gifted learners in Aotearoa.
We are a diverse group, with one third of us based in Auckland and the rest spread fairly evenly through our population centres. Almost 20% of us are in school leadership, one quarter are classroom teachers, and the rest are learning support teachers and co-ordinators of various types. Almost 60% of us have been teaching for more than 20 years.
In terms of gifted education, 80% have had moderate or very little experience in gifted education whilst 14% have had extensive experience. 60% of our educators have had no previous PLD support in gifted education, whilst at the other end, 5% have a Masters in gifted education or learning support.
What are we interested in learning together? Our top 3 areas with over 80% keen to learn more are differentiation of learning for gifted students, social and emotional wellbeing and programme planning.
